What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy or PRP?
Blood contains white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.
PRP is a liquid that contains a higher concentration of platelets than what is typically found in the blood. PRP is sometimes used for growth or healing purposes because platelets contain high levels of growth factors.
How is the procedure performed?
To obtain plasma with a higher concentration of platelets, the patient’s blood is drawn and spun down using a centrifuge causing the platelets to accumulate together. This high concentration of platelets can be collected and used either topically or via injection.
What can PRP be used to treat?
In dermatology, it is most commonly being tested for alopecia, facial rejuvenation and/or for its healing properties.
